Crimes on festivity: A thumbs down to Dumarao police officers
3:19 AM
I was amazed by the colorful performances, with amazing backdrops and breath-taking atmosphere, rendered by the dancers
from different sectors and schools on the street dancing competition and
playground demonstration during the first day of “Padagyaw” festivity
celebration. “Search for Miss SK sa Padagyaw 2013” on the third day also
reflexed me that beauty and brain among the beautiful ladies of my town still
exist.
But before the five-day celebration had
ended, a horrifying news astonished me after hearing that there were stabbing and
rape cases happened beyond the joyous celebration of the annual fiesta,
victimizing a college student and a 12-year-old innocent child in the latter.
These dismaying incidences put me into a question if the Dumarao police
officers really did their part during the busiest event of the town.
Reniel Hitalia, a student of Capiz State
University, Dumarao campus was in trouble after stabbed by a man who was one of
the workers of the funfair or commonly known as “peryahan”. Nene, not on her
real name, a 12-year-old child with mental disorder became a victim on her
early age when she went with herself to the funfair where she was grabbed and
raped by the suspect who was allegedly a 19-year-old worker of the funfair, too.
Worst, these incidences happened few meters from the Dumarao police station which
is operating 24/7.
Where are the police officers during those delinquencies? I tried myself to figure out where they were
during that time, until I finally had the response when I tried to go back with
the past festivity events that I have attended before. Yes, as I remember, they
were in the Dumarao Sports Complex who were putting security to the occasion,
but in disappointment, they flouted the probability that wrongdoings will also
happen outside the complex where actually the most of the individuals where.
Stabbing incident was happened in the night
of “OLSI sa Padagyaw” wherein the
police officers have shortcomings to assign any enforcer outside the complex.
They have entertained by the event and have forgotten what was their obligation
really was. The same thing, the rape case also happened during the night of “Miss
SK sa Padagyaw 2013,” but it seems that the police officers were also in the
same area during the next day’s incidence.
The defiance of our police officers with
their profession may have been eradicated by such no absolute action was acted upon their deficiencies. With
almost how many years have been counted, on every event celebrated by the town
such as Food Festival and the recently
concluded Padagyaw, there are crimes that
are serving as part of the occasion.
Our police officers should secure the areas
where most people where – both outside and inside the event area. If they can
secure the area even in a small ballpoint of a pen where crimes are prone, they
should do because we, the people, are paying taxes to provide us security.
